In the week that was supposed to mark Michael Jackson’s great comeback, it was another music ICON who made a long-awaited return.
Despite spending almost a decade out of the spotlight, Whitney Houston looked like she had never been away as she arrived in London to launch her new album.
The 45-year-old, who has fought a high-profile battle with drug and alcohol addiction in recent years, looked fantastic during her appearance at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel. Diva wore a black belted overcoat which she removed to reveal a flattering black-and-white tight-fitting Dolce & Gabbana dress ( You Go Girl). Although she did not sing, she was given a standing ovation as tracks were played from her new album, I Look to You – her first release in almost six years.
Among those there to witness the moment were Topshop billionaire Sir Philip Green and music mogul Clive Davis, who discovered Miss Houston 25 years ago. Davis said of the album: “You won’t forget it after you hear it.”(WOW)And referring to the star’s troubled life, he added: ‘She tumbled, but she didn’t crumble.’ (Well Put!) Miss Houston has sold more than 140 million albums, since 1985 and is the only artist to have had seven consecutive multi-platinum releases.
